So sorry to hear about your family. Words are so difficult to say in this sort of situation.....
If you are in touch with them be sure to say we are thinking of them.

God help all those people affected by Hurricane Katrina, our hearts go out to them and all decent people feel so helpless as we watch their terrible plight on tv.You would imagine that the USA goverment would be better equipped in dealing with this disaster .

For all the wealth and wonders that we Americans seem to possess and enjoy, there is nothing that can humble a population as quickly as a disaster of this proportion. As an American that frequents this board often, I would like to personally thank each of you for your expressions of concern and caring.

I happen to live more than 1200 miles from the New Orleans area, but I have been a visitor to that wonderful area. I feel badly for the residents that are going through this misery and suffering, and wish that our government would respond more forcefully with remedial actions. Unfortunately, our government only operates in two speeds: SLOW, and CRISIS. It has taken 4+ days for those in control to get activated and to begin to respond. Far too many have died and regretably far too many more yet will. One thing this disaster has laid bare for the world to see, is the plain and simple truth that there are many in this country that "fall through the cracks" so to speak. Most of those being brutalized by this storm have lived their entire lives, thus far, as wards of the state. They have never been taught or equipped to fend for themselves; a travesty such as this occurs, and they are adrift in dispair with no one to direct their actions or to provide for their continued well being. It is indeed an indictment of the failure of the USA for having ignored this segment of our society. I hope that we shall change in the future to a more compassionate and caring populace.

Thank you again for your expressions of concern. It is indeed appreciated and will be long remembered.

So sorry to hear the news of your family Daniel, Kaye and Millie, but glad to hear that they are safe and well.
My thoughts are with everyone affected by this terrible tragedy, Mother Nature can be as cruel and indiscriminate as any terrorist.

We were out in Orlando when Katrina hit New Orleans and, as we had no tv, we were unaware of the severity of it and the devastation it has caused. It took about a week for people to realise how bad it was and get collections etc. going. I was amazed at how slow the authorities were to act and seemed to be bogged down in bureaucracy.

Our thoughts go out to all those affected, who have lost everything[grouphug]

It was heartbreaking this morning watching those people being made to leave their homes. Even the policeman was close to tears. The psychological effect on these people is going to affect them for years. God bless them all.
