    Rainforest Rip Off

Whatever you do make sure that you book before going to Rainforest cafe at Downtown Disney. We went recently on a Saturday night and they were quoting 3 hours wait for everyone. However, if you were prepared to pay $15 to join their safari club you could cut your wait time to 30 minutes!![confused] So many people did this so how could they accomodate them all if the waiting time was 3 hours[confused]
As the kids were so looking forward to this we decided to join the club. After 1 hour we were finally called! The couple in front of us were shown to their table and we were next. However, a few minutes later the couple were back as their server had gone home! We had just been given menu's and were about to be shown to our table, but the server abandoned us for a few minutes more to help the couple and didnt return for ages.
We were finally shown to our table. I decided to go for the pot roast. When it was delivered it was cleverly arranged to disguise the fact that the meat was actually almost all fat. I returned it to the kitchen. My son's steak was ordered as medium but was rare, he did not want me to complain but I was fed up by this time and so complained. The waitress really was not sympathetic at all and i wished that i hadnt left her tip now. All we got back was a measly $10 for all the things that had gone wrong. We decided not to order a sweet and have decided not to return to Rainforest again. I did complain through their website on my return but have been completely ignored. This was the only bad service and poor meal that we had during the holiday but was right in the middle on a saturday night and so was not what we wanted.[msnsad]
I'm sure some will think that we should have booked and we wished we had. However, the $15 membership that magically reduces waiting times from 3 hours to 30 mins(or so) seems to me to be designed to rip people off[msnmad]. When did the rainforest start to rip people off in this way? Based on my experience, I would really advise against this restaurant.
To finish on a positive note the Olive garden was excellent and needed two visits during our vacation, Tony Roma's was also excellent and the waitress was so helpful, Boma's was good and the Polynesian was a real different and highly enjoyable meal. The holiday was excellent and one bad meal did not affect it but be warned, book or don't bother going especially at busy times.

I have eaten in the Rainforest many times and the food has always been good. However I tend to stay away from peak times because you can get poorer service because they are so busy. Bad news is that the Rainforest do not take booking at any of there Florida restaurants.

We too, have always had great meals at the Rainforest Cafe. We do the same as Dave and try to time eating there with the quieter times of the day.

Another tip is to try the one at the entrance to Animal Kingdom before the park closes, it's usually much quieter then [msnwink]

I am sorry to hear of your troubles at the rainforest. We went on a Saturday night while we were there 3 weeks ago, we were told one hour wait and got seated in less than 30 minutes. The food as always was wonderful, altough their idea of steak cooking is different to ours (but we knew that from a previous visit.)I have never had a bad meal there and have been 8-10 times between downtown disney and the one at animal kingdom. We did have one of our party with cold starters at Planet Hollywood[msnsad]but that was all!

We have always got there early as with Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe, get there around 5pm and never have to wait, it suits us to eat early with children and normally we go on days when we have had a big breakfast and no lunch so by 5pm we are hungry[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink]

Sorry you had such a rotten time Rodney.
We have only eaten there once, but on the strength of that experience wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Oh what a shame We have always visited the Rainforest cafe each time we go to Florida ( I adore the Stir Fry! ), we have neither waited long or had bad service. Admit experience tells us that peak times (Saturday nights for example) are to be avoided. We tend to go of a week day lunchtime to the one at Downtown Disney and have never experienced any problems at all. Don't be put off if you go back, change stategy[msnwink]

The first time we went to the Rainforest Cafe the food was excellent! The ribs were probably the best I had ever had.

We returned with our friends and their 2 children this year and our meal was really nowhere near as high a standard as our first visit. We were very dissapointed and complained about one of the steaks which was practically inedible due to the sinue, we were compensated $10!!

The bill was very high for the quality, and I would definately think twice about returning.
