Continental Airlines

Have Just got tickets for Sept through Continental from Germany - Orlando (via New York).

I know they use the 757 - 200 Aircraft which is not the best there is. The price was very good at £411 each (including a set seat for Dillon).

Has anyone flown with them on this place via New York? We have 1 hr and 40 change at Newark.

Looking forward to it as never flown via there, might break up the flight.

We regularly use Continental from Bristol via Newark and have always had the 757-200, the tv's are in the middle of each rows bulkhead avery three rows or so. Movies not the most up to date, but then I read magazines etc.

One hour forty should be ok, and a real push we have done it in one hour twenty mins, and that was really speeding, I always try to give at least two hours if I can help it.

Immigration is pretty speedy through Newark as they tend to know it is a hub airport and a huge amount of people are connecting. The one thing that might slow you down a bit is, if you land at terminal A first, as the Orlando flight always departs from terminal C. the connections is ok, you get on a shuttle just like MCO, and then its usually up a flight of stairs walk across the concourse up another flight of stairs, and then the dreaded queue for security. although they do have a fast queue for people with about 15/20 mins to flights, but it might be different from Germany than Bristol.

I would imagine that these flights must close to the longest trip a 757 can do but if the price is right for you, then it's worth it. Long time in a narrow-bodied jet though.

I use Continental from Bristol about three times a year through Newark and as Ceri says the delay can be the security for the second flight which at times is a bit of a scrum. Having said that in end of January on our last trip we sailed through without all the usual shouting of liquids, shoes etc.

I like to to have two hours to get through Immigration and security but 1 hour 40 minutes should do it.

Continental cabin crew tend to be 'mature' but I find they are usually more than amenable and up for a laugh.

Just used then via Manchester in Feb, we think Continental are really good.

Our connection time was 2 hours through immigration, as long as you are on time then you wont have any problems getting to your Orlando bound flight. Immigration wasn't that busy there but to speed things up they just sent non US residents to the US immigration desks.

Took us about 20mins tops to clear. After bag collection and going through passport control again you have about a 5 min trek to your new check in desk. If its the same one as we flew from then there is a nice little Bar across where you can enjoy a beer while you wait.

I've just booked Continental flights from Edinburgh to Orlando via Newark. Great prices if you don't mind a narrow plane without your own personal tv. To me though the great plus is getting flights from our own local airport.

I have flown with them before and they are fine. No great frills but you do get a free meal and pre-booked seats inclusive.

Flew out last week from edinburgh via Newark with a 1 hr 40 mins connection.... I missed it by around 5 mins but they have loads of flights so got on one an hour later which was fine.

As we are flying with Continental on the New York - Orlando flight I am assuming the bags will get checked through. I would not expect to check them in again as it is the same airline.

You do have to collect them at Newark and then put them on the onward connecting belt at the other side of customs.

When you have gone through Immigration and Customs at Newark tell the staff who take your luggage the time of your flight as they tend to have one person seeing to luggage for flights within an hour or so and others to deal with later flights.

Don't forget that the liquid restrictions apply on the second flight so don't get caught as I did with still having a bottle of water that I had purchased in Bristol but not consummed. It was taken off me at security.
