    Labor Day

This year we'll be flying into Orlando on Labor Day. As we are staying in a villa, we need to stock up on a few essentials. I'm hoping that all the stores will be open. Has anyone experienced Labor Day before and have knowledge of the opening times, etc?

Also, I'd planned on taking some Tetleys Tea bags etc, my hubby has taken these before, but we have been told that we may not be able to do this now, as they are much stricter than they used to be. Does anybody have any info about what exactly you can take?

    Thanks ALR

We have been in Florida on Labor Day but can't remember the opening hours of the shops, sorry.
We took T-bags with us last time, and had no problems, the immigration officer found them in my parents case and all he said was "You English and your tea" and chuckled. I have heard of people having t-bags confiscated though, so it would seem to depend on the officer at the time. You can buy T-bags in the Ethnic section at Publix, prices are a bit inflated but if you are desperate for a good old English cuppa its worth it.[msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

You can buy Nescafe in the supermarkets over there but it goes by the name of Tasters Choice (or something very similar). The jar is exactly the same as Nescafe and it tastes the same.

We've been there for Labour Day and spent it at Sea World (I remember this as it was a very hot day)but also can't remember if the supermarkets were open.

Tea bags are fine to pack. Only roasted coffee beans are allowed. This link to the London US Embassy site may help you. (It starts off with a query on medicine hence that being on the link but it talks about other things including food)

We went to Chicago on our way to Orlando on Labour day and found everything except the attractions to be closed. Ended up that we had to starve until the next day.

Many stores etc. will be open on Labor Day. Most of these will open later and/or close early though.

Am I right in thinking that labor day is the Monday 5 Sep. If so what about the Sunday is that a normal day for shops etc? I ask because that's my arrival day and the thought of buying no milk for my coffee is unbearable - I can manage without food!

I think the Sunday would be a normal day.

We always take Tetley Tea-bags with us and we've never had a problem. They usually sell those horrible Liptons t-bags over there. It's useful to know that Publix are now selling the real thing now though![msnsmile]

We always take T bags, Breakfast Cereals, sweeteners etc and never had any problems with US customs. We even took a tin of Quality streets with us last time.
