The only time you ever really know about flight prices Alfie is when you price them up for your trip. They vary between airlines, routes and especially the peak vs. off-peak times of the year. Unfortunately the only thing you ever see on the TV or read in the newspapers tends to have a negative spin on it. I guess if they were ever to print something that was factually correct, like 'Family goes to Florida and has the holiday of a lifetime' it just wouldn't sell.

For your children's passports I would get them done as soon as poss. It's just one job less to worry about. The October deadline is being moved to 2006 so there is nothing to be gained or lost by delaying.

September is an absolutely gorgeous time to visit Florida. It's beautifully hot and not as humid as the middle of summer. In fact it's so nice at that time of the year that you'll wish you had gone for longer; so why not plan an extra week and spend some time around Orlando and then head over to the Gulf Coast to experience some of the most beautiful areas that Florida has to offer. That newspaper headine, 'Family goes to Florida and has the holiday of a lifetime' just wouldn't be good enough!

Thanks Steve, looks good, in fact hubby is london cab driver and had travel guru in last week stated th same, BUT did state that people are going to florida instead of europe due to value for money factor and airlines have picked up on this fact. Went to Florida in Feb (best one EVER!!) just come back from Dorset and spent 1,500 in a WEEK entertaining the kids spent nothing like that in Florida and stayed onsite Universal so more pricey than other places. Due to school hols want to go last week August 1st week september is this tail end of hurricane wet weather should i be concernd?

We are here at the moment. No-one talks about hurricanes, although it may be hurricane season. Until they do threaten, we tend to just get on and enjoy our holiday, like everyone else. Last year was very unusual, and although this season has been very active, Floridians have said what hurricanes? We do need to be aware of the possibility but normally villas in Orlando have a detailed plan of what to do and where to go etc if any should happen, but on the whole just enjoy your holiday.

Snapper has given you some excellent advice.

Don't give the threat of hurricanes a second thought.

Last years antics were historically unprecedented.

    Alfie,

I don't think that flight prices are going up really, we have just priced September with BA and the flights are almost £100.00 cheaper than we paid last year! This is from Gatwick to Tampa, comes in at just over £320.00 each. Maybe you are looking at the prices during the school holidays?

September is the best month to visit as far as we're concerned.

We're finding flight prices are unpredictable. We got a good deal on ours for late September, but have seen them come even lower since we booked. You just can't tell. The only thing to do is get on and book when you find prices you're happy to pay.

That's a good time of year to go. Enjoy the summer!

I think your hubby's travel guru was part right about the value for money Alfie. There is excellent value to be had in Florida with the dollar still being somewhat weak but I don't think that's the whole reason for Florida's popularity. I think folks are waking up to the idea that it's a 4 1/2 hour flight to Cyprus and the Canaries and only an extra 3 - 3 1/2 hours to Florida. When you compare what each destination has to offer you quickly realise that while Florida is well and truly premier league most of the places around the Med are first or even second division. I also think that more and more people are waking up to the idea that while Orlando is an amazing destination, Florida has heaps more to offer. Miami is re-inventing itself as quite a chic destination. The Keys remain as laid back as ever, and the whole Gulf Coast is just to die for.

I think the previous advice for not worrying about hurricanes and wet weather is absolutely spot on. They are like flight prices. They only make the news when there is a story to report. Ask yourself how many times you heard hurricanes and Florida mentioned on the news the year before last? That's right! It shouldn't surprise you that you heard nothing, as there was nothing to report. Just like the year before that, and the year before that.

    Have a great trip.

BA had special deals on flights last week to Miami in September for £278.00 and this week it is Tampa or Orlando from £298.00 also in September. Travel city have flights going on 3rd September for 14 nights for £148.00. The only thing is you have to book car through them for this price, total cost for 3 adults and I4 car £862 which is still cheaper than 3 flights with BA or Virgin, although we prefer to fly on scheduled airlines. Virgin also have special deals on flights through September although there not as cheap as the BA deals, prices from £330.00.
