    vegetarian food!

    Hi,
we're going to Florida in a week but are a little worried about eating out as my girlfriend is vegetarian and is worried that the steak capital of the world might pose one or two problems!! am I right in saying that a lot of restaurants will do something that she can eat and particularly the chain restaurants?? (like in this country)
a diet of pizza and chips for two weeks won't be too great! are there any veggies out there who have been and how did you find the food??
Thanks for any help you can give
    Alex and Kate

I'm not a veggie but not keen on meat, and we often go to "Sweet Tomatoes", a salad buffet restaurant at the north end of International Drive/junction of Kirkman Rd. The range of salads include many marked as suitable for vegatarians, plus there is usually a least one vegetarian soup and pasta dish. Jacket (baked) spuds, if you avoid the bacon bits to sprinkle. Very tastely, very cheap.[8)]

All our family are veggies and we have no problem at all. We do avoid the obvious steakhouses but most other places have a few selections on the menu. Our favourites at the moment are:

    Bahama Breeze
    Cheesecake Factory
Villa de Flora at the Gaylord Palms Hotel
Boma at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
    Macaroni Grill
    Chevys
    Olive Garden

We have a mix of meat and non meat eaters in our family. Take a look at this article on the Florida Guide http://www.villasflorida.com/vacatio...n_orlando.aspx

Our daughter was a vegetarian up to a couple of months ago and I am sure that we bought veggie Sausages and Burgers from Publix last July.

They were not Quorn but were very similar

I'm not sure but the Publix we use has a small veggie section in the fruit and veg section with things like veggie sausages etc etc. Would be worth a look.

    Hi Alex and Kate

I am a vegetarian and go over to Florida every year. I don't have any problems buying veggie food and Walmart and Publix both have a selection.

On the restaurant front I can agree with others that Olive Garden(various locations) and Cheesecake factory (Millenia Mall) both have a good choice. We go to any restaurant we fancy and have always found something for me. Out of eight of us, only two are veggies so we have to visit the other restaurants for the other six!! I am quite particular too as I don't want anything that has say, a little chicken stock in it etc., and always ask if I am in doubt. They are very happy to find out if it is completely vegetarian and I have had some honest answers back like, "yes it has about a teaspoonful of chicken stock". I obviously didn't order that dish but was glad of the honesty. Most Italian restaurants will cater for veggies too. Then there are the chinese buffets - these are good! I did find Planet Hollywood, although a good restaurant, only had, I think, one thing for veggies.

Have a great holiday. Hope the advice you are getting on this forum helps!!
    Francine
