Plastic, cash or traveller's cheques?

Everybody seems to have differing opinions about spending in Orlando. I'd planned on using my credit/debit card and taking a small amount of cash, for tolls and tips etc.

However, quite a few people have said they prefer traveller's cheques for security as these are widely accepted as cash.

Does anybody have an opinion?

When I lived in England....I did a mix of all three......now I live in the USA I mostly use cash..unless buying something big.....

We use cash and credit cards - never had a problem. Good idea to have some cash on you when you arrive though, as you have stated, you will have to pay to go through the toll roads.

We tend to use a mixture of cash, credit card and travellers cheques.

We have Nationwide Building Society accounts so use the debit card from our flex account for drawing cash and our credit card for purchases. They give a much better rate than the tourist rates given for cash and travellers cheques. They do not charge extra when converting from currency to sterling so you get very near to the market exchange rate. We have never had them refused anywhere in the States.

We never take travellers cheques. It is so easy to access your bank account over there that we rely on our switch card and credit cards. Also a few dollars for the tolls etc. We never leave the UK with more than $200, just enough for that first shop and maybe breakfast the day after we arrive. Just about everyone accepts switch and I believe that you will get a better exchange rate using that as compared with travellers cheques.

We always use Cash + Credit Card. As other people have stated quite often credit cards offer a better exchnage rate anyway.

You do get a better exchange rate with a card, they tend to use the business rate which is a few cents higher than the tourist rate, however it would be wise to check the small print on the card terms and conditions to ensure that they do not make a charge for conversions as if they do you could end up costing more.

The Nationwide Flex account came highly recommended from this site and they do not charge.
