    Shuttle Launch

Just watched the Discovery shuttle launch. What a fantastic sight.

I didn't manage to get to Kennedy, but even from the back garden of our Villa it was still spectacular.

Everyone was outside to watch the launch. Glad everything went OK.It reminded me of Mission space.

Said on the news that the launch uses the same amount of fuel as an average swimming pool holds... every second!!

Wouldn't like to pay to fill up their tank even with US prices for gas.

Hope it is getting good coverage in UK.
    Graham

Yes Sky and BBC news both covered the launch. Funny I was just wondering what it would have been like to be at our Villa in Orlando while the shuttle launch happen. You looky thing you.

I watched but on the streaming KSC TV feed over the internet. About 20 mins after launch they mentioned that it was now flying over Great Britain.

Some day we might be able to fly to Florida in 20 minutes. Glad the launch went well. We were hoping to see this launch from Florida back in May but it wasnt to be. How long is it up in space?

If you think it's good from the back garden you'd be absolutely amazed at the "real thing" and watching it from Canaveral where you can see it on the launchpad etc. We've watched several rocket launches where you just see them once they are in orbit but to see them take off from the ground is spectacular.

We have actually seen the Shuttle from our back garden in the UK as it followed the International Space Station, (helps if you have a brother with the programme who follows the orbits, and it was incredible watching the Space Station being followed by the shuttle before they docked a couple of years ago.

The pictures on BBC news 24 were some of the best I've seen from the launch as they showed pictures from the camera mounted on the Shuttle so you could see the 2 solid rocket fuel boosters separate and then the main tank separation.

We had tickets for the launch (bought in May) but we're still in the UK, due out in the US on Friday - so missed it [msncry][msncry][msncry]

But so glad it went up safely.
