They may have a problem having left the drink on there overnight, sometimes it's possible to simply rinse out the keyboard lightly with clean water and let it dry out. It depends if the laptop has a membrane beneath the keyboard. It's probable that the stuff has got onto the motherboard which is a major problem. It would require the services of a competent repair shop. The hard drive is sealed so nothing would have got in there, they shouldn't have lost any data. Have they checked their household insurance policy? I would have thought that it covers accidental damage..

Anything other than water needs more than just drying with a hairdryer!

They need to remove and clean the keyboard Stuart. They may need to do this at home, (as Badger says with the help of a competent computer engineer).

It is a difficult one as laptops are more sensitive to this sort of thing. You spill a drink on your keyboard you buy another one but laptops are a different story. It might be worth while seeing if your local pc shop can help. Its not good to take a laptop apart if you do not know what you are doing as you risk more damage.

If all else fails, you could connect an ordinary keyboard to it.

Blott, unfortunately it is not that easy, as in laptops, if water gets in through the keyboard, it usually causes an internal short circuit, which would prevent you from using the computer - full stop!

Nice thought though. Do you want to join the tech support crew??

Nope, whenever you spill liquid on it, the computer automatically locates all of your Florida photographs and deletes them. Sorry!!
