Hi Andrew,

From what I've seen there seems to be three tiers of noise cancelling headphones, in terms of price and quality. Products within each tier are of similar price and of similar quality.

Top tier without doubt are the Bose headphones. They are quite honestly untouchable with this type of technology, however they do come at a price. Just like everything in life you get what you pay for.

Second tier are the sets that retail around the £70-£90 mark. There are heaps of headphones to choose from. Your Sennheisers sit very comfortably here. I have a pair of Sonys that are very similar to the Sennheisers. They work well, cancel all the low rumbling noises and are generally pretty good. If you don't want to stretch to the Bose these products are a good buy.

Bottom tier typically retail sub £40 and include products like the PlaneQuiets. To be honest I'd steer well clear of these as they are pretty pants as noise cancelling headphones go. I've tried a pair of PlaneQuiets and they just don't cancel noise. They're a big let down.

For a piece of plastic that you stick in your ear to hear music.
Thats probably more than the actual music player!

My 16 y/o daughter would probably buy the Sennheiser MX500 White Earphones £24.99 as her ipod earphones have worn out[msnwink] My ipod is only 10 months old so mine are ok[msnsmile2]

The BOSE headphones have the double socket adaptor in the kit for planes like Continental (with 2 prongs)
The sennheiser ones are also excellent, and the original ones linked to in the first post have an Empower plug for charging the iPod at the same time - wicked!!

Like John, I swear by my original Bose comfort headphones bought as refurbished from a Bose store in Portsmouth (Gunwharf Quays), while we were visiting my daughter at University.

Don't forget resales, even on headphones, - not just villas
