Does anyone know if this can be done for a couple of weeks, and if so what are the typical costs. Thanks in advance.

There is a company and if I hadn't given my book on the theme parks to someone I would give you there web site! It was something like airtouch or aircall - (haven't used them though so I don't know what they are like.
Another option is to get a triband phone here (mainly motorola) - these will work in europe & usa, but watch those call charges!![]()
I bought a pay as you go Motorola cell phone from Cingular wireless on 192 East for $79, complete with $30 dollars worth of calls already loaded.
Looked into hiring, and altho it can be done, it's very expensive and call charges are high too.
I have a 121 uk phone and they said they could rent me a tri-band phone so I just
put my chip inside and use it as normal

Virgin are currently doing a US Pay as You go phone for $59 and they will give you $20 worth of free airtime. This seems alot cheaper than renting. They have a shop at Down Town Disney. You can get more info from their site at:

Pay as you go is the way to go. It would be as cheap as hiring. A few mcs used to rent phones out and most stopped doing it and I assume this is why. I presume you will eventually be after a contract mobile phone as you are relocating?? You need a social security number to get one of these or pay a hefty deposit. We got away with $250 and were told we were lucky.

Yes $250 is lucky, I have a friend in CA who needed a mobile and was told that he needed to supply a $1000 deposit.quote:Originally posted by esprit

As far as renting a phone, Virgin were at one time doing a phone rental, but as mentioned earlier, a pay as you go option will be better value overall.
