Does it have to be the high street? I always use a company called onlineFX (just do a search) I have always found them to give the best rates. Delivered next day.

Looking at the exchange rate plummeting over the last few days it looks like wherever you get your currency, it's going to be a fair bit less than we have been getting used to.

There as been a slight drop over the last few days , however with the rate still hovering around $1.77, it is still very good value for money for a holiday, where costs are no where near like they are in the UK, you can still by a gallon of fuel for what you pay for a litre back home.

Petrol is about $2.15 a US gallon – say £1.25. or approx £1.40 for an Imperial gallon

Still much cheaper than UK but not many places in UK I know that charge £1.25 a litre!

The point KG was making is that you will now get 7-8% less $$$s for your £££s than a couple of weeks ago.

In the past we have used both M & S and OnlineFX. Both give better rates than most.

That was indeed my point Robert. In May I was getting a tourist rate of around $1.90. Now it is more like $1.72.

As you say, it represents almost a 10% rise in price on everything you spend in the US. To me that makes a difference.

I was shocked today when I went on the teletext and in 3 days the rate has dropped

I was going to change some money last week, but forgot, now getting a worse rate.
