    Spam emails..........can you stop them??

I'm getting really annoyed with the amount of spam emails that i get, in particular there is the Meds one and another from a **** site that always says its from a girl called Julie.

Now i have spam filtering with Norton 2005, but from what i can see, everytime they send out these messages its always a different email address or domain, so the filter never stops them.

Is anybody else having this kind of problem and are there any other ways of blocking these ??

I never reply to any of these or ask to unsubscribe as i know thats how they confirm that the address is active.

    Regards,
    Neil & Kay

I am fed up with these too Frosty. The most recent ones are telling me that I have been chosen to receive a mortgage reduction and another one that is urging me to buy a dog-training manual!!

I'd love to know how to stop getting them. [msnmad]

MSN only lets you block 100 or so, only way to try and stop them is to keep updating it and deleting old ones. But as yet I have not found a cure.

I had this a little while ago - I was getting around 30 a day trying to sell cheap viagra [:O] and nothing stopped them. In the end they stopped of their own accord, but it took about 6 weeks!! It was a real pain. [msnmad]

If you have had your email address for some time you tend to get more spam I find. My dead account gets a fair amount but my newer addresses get the odd one a week. I use MacAfee and the Yahoo service to try to stop this and presume it is working to some degree[?]

We were getting alot of these, especially the viagara and other such things, at the moment we don't seem to be getting them though. Just watch them come flooding in now that I have said that.[msnoo][msnsmile2]

We used to get 2000+ spam mails a day and it was getting hard to spot the genuine emails from spam as there was so much to go through. We upgraded our mail server software (we host our own mail server) and as part of it added some server-side spam filtering software with built in Bayesian spam filters.

It's been fantastic and catches 99.99% of spam messages and the Inbox is now useable again [msnsmile2]

Spam gets zapped before we even get to download it but do have a way of checking throught the spam filtered by the server to pick out any genuine emails the system thinks may bbe spam.

For the techies out there, and I guess the non techies too, there is a very well written paper about Bayesian filtering at http://www.paulgraham.com/spam.html

I do like the technical elegance of this appraoch to beating spam, but if it were left to me I think I'd just hang them instead. Bring back the gallows and have a public flogging and hanging every weekend.

I only get a few of the million $$ ones in my yahoo account....the rest go to junk mail.....I don't want to change it because I get a lot of questions about visas on that account and I don't want to lose those......
