Cheap smokes in Calais

I know its not Florida, but i have a trip over the waves from Dover to Calais to do, and have been tasked with bringing back some cheap cigs.

Has anyone done this recently and could they let me know where is the best place to buy cigs. Also any idea of price and do they take Visa or sterling or is it just euros ???

You need to go to Tobacco Road in Adenkirke in Belgium, approx. 45 mins from both ferry terminal and tunnel Sous Le Manche, straight up A16 and take first turn off after border, turn left at top of slip road and then left at first roundabout and this is Tobacco Road. They take both sterling or euros and often give free chocs or beer with orders depending upon size of order. The first pub on the left does a great English breakfast all day. Suggest Speedferries.com for crossing (Dover to Bolougne) as cheapest online booking. Last time we went (Nov 2004) prices were roughly £30ish for 200 cigarettes, £25.50 for rolling tobacco (Golden Virginia) for 500gms.

Neil, your not actually allowed to buy cigarettes for anyone else. The duty free allowance is for personal use only....

They are £27 for 200. They are not duty free, they are Belgian duty paid. You are allowed to bring a recommended 3200 for your own use. Although you can bring more than that. A word of warning though, my nephew went over a few weeks ago in his 3 year old BMW convertable and brought back a boot full of cigs. All different brands!! There was no way the C&E believed they were all his. This was his second time, he got warned on his return from Goa a couple of years ago with a suitcase of Bensons, they took the cigs off him and told him his name is being entered onto the computer. So what happened this time? They took his car! He has tried to get it back but has been told he is not getting it and also they are considering prosicution.
