    More sad elephant news

Just reda this snippet of news about the mother of the baby elephant that Liesa posted about.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Ibala, the 26-year-old African elephant at Disney's Animal Kingdom whose calf had recently been proclaimed dead in utero, died herself last Saturday from a uterine infection. A Disney spokeswoman said that despite emergency surgery performed on Ibala on Friday, the elephant succumbed to the severe infection. Ibala, who came to Animal Kingdom in 1997 from the Phoenix Zoo, became pregnant through artificial insemination on July 24, 2003, but during labor it was discovered that the calf was not alive. There have been successful elephant births at Animal Kingdom, most recently last July, when a 230-pound female elephant named Kianga was born.

    Such wonderful creatures.

All things happen for a reason, so they say.

Lets hope this does not affect the Animal Kingdom.

    Love going there!
