Looks like we will be able to go - UPDATE

After the last weeks uncertainty of our holiday in Florida in July, we now have been told we will be OK [clap][clap][clap]
For those who have sent good wishes for our son Thank You - for those of you wondring what I am on about - On the 30th of April our 9 year old broke his arm while at his trampoline club, as this is the second time (last Oct) that had to operate on the Sat morning and things did not go well and he was in theatre for 3 and a half hours and they have put titanium rods in both bones, because it had been broken before the bone canal had healed up and had to be drilled out, we were told he would need another op in 8 weeks and then plaster changed at intervals for 8 weeks, so it did not look good. Yesterday when he had a check up we were told that due to the arm been so unstable they are going to leave the rods in for around 8 months, he has now got another plaster on with a review in 2 weeks but he will be able to fly even if he still has the pot on , they have made a removeable one so that when the time comes he will be able to take it off for short periods.
He has been very brave through all this and we are so proud of him, he was devastaed when he thought he would not be able to go but was relieved when they told him yesterday that they would make sure he was OK to go.
I think we have aged years in this last week!

No more trampolining (he tripped over a tent peg at cub camp last time)

After to-days visit we have now discovered on having all new x-rays done that our son has a broken elbow as well as everything else so has now had new plaster fitted for another two weeks, so still off school and now have to contact insurance to declare, in case anything happens over there, so that will probably bump premiums up, - still ageing rapidley!!!

    Hi Ravinto,

I am glad to hear that your son is making a good recovery and that you will be able to go to Florida.
We had a similar problem when our daughter broke her wrist 7 weeks before we were due to go a few years ago. Fortunately her break was not as serious as your son's and when we explained about our trip the docoter very kindly said that she could go back for her check up after 6 weeks and that if it was not healed he would change the full arm plaster for a half plaster that would be more comfortable in the heat. Fortunatley the x-rays were OK after 6 weeks and she just had a support bandage and sling for the next week before we went. She broke her wrist while playing football with her older brother and his friends needless to say she was banned from the football pitch before subsequent trips.
Have a great time in Florida just don't let him near any trampolines or tent pegs!

Just a thought will the titanium rods set off the metal detectors? Might be worth asking your GP or the hospital as they will probably know or more likely someone on the forum will be able to let us know what happens if you have any kind of metal implants.
    Julie

Adam will not be able to go to the Trampoline Club again as we have been told it will take 2 to 3 years for the bone to be anywhere near healed, we have taken his trampoline down at home and he has asked us not to sell it!! although I think I will panic at the slightest thing, we are soory that he will not be able to do it as this is something he loves and is not interested in any other sport (maybe thats a blessing) I am so reeived about the hols as we are taking our 12 year old neice with us and she has never been before and is so looking forward to it.

That is fantastic news ravtino you must so relieved .

LiesaAnne it was wonderful to read your post! [clap] We are now on a 3 week countdown and I thought I was being majorly paranoid about kids (football matches, athletics etc) and hubby (just bought a new sportsbike) but it is so good to know that I am not alone in wanting to wrap up the family in cottonwool!
