Should I buy T.C. now at current rate as it seems to be falling daily since the Gen. Election or hold off till closer to my departure date 30th June, also has anybody flown Glasgow,Chicago,Orlando route with American Airlines and how they found the airline in general.

If you are concered then buy now. Our rule of thumb we applied when we bought travellers cheques (we don't bother now) was work out how much we want to buy. Then calculate todays rate and then say a 3 cent plus and minus change. Unless you are wanting to convert lots of money, the difference is normally within 50 dollars.

Nowaday's we carry $200 in cash, then put the rest on credit card. Putting all bar fast food outings and less than say $10 on plastic. If needed we take extra cash from an atm machine.
If you search on this forum for nationwide's credit card, you see some good reports re exchange rate when using their credit card.

If we knew the answer to the travellers' cheques question, we'd all be millionaires by now! [msnwink] Why not buy some now and some later on and then you've hedged your bets?

AA is an OK airline when we've flown from Manchester, Chicago, Orlando and had the largest seat pitch of any airline in economy, although I think they're phasing this out now.

Flew with American last year, London to New York. Was ok, I would certainly fly with them again. Bags of room in steerage as Blott said.

The rates dropped by about 2c since yesterday!

Got mine from the RBS the other day, got $1.83. Not too bad.

Could be famous last words. But, the US economy is not in the best of condition, so I expect the general rates to remain pretty stable in the 1.85 - 1.9 region. So it is not necessary to panic. I always use credit cards and just carry enought cash for tips etc.

I got them cos I like the security of the fact that if they are lost/stolen they will be replaced next day, if I lose my cash or CC's (or as happened to me in Paris a few years ago, the ATM swallowed my card) I will be left with nothing.

Having said that my new Nationwide CC is on it's way as we speak, as recommended by the members of these forums [8D]

Thanks for the replies everybody, I decided to go ahead and buy £1000 yesterday evening thru' OnlineFX @ $1.812 as the rate still seems to be falling even today, all I need to do now is apply for the famed Nationwide Credit Card( need to hurry tho' -only have 7 weeks to go)
