Virgin check-in...New Rules.

Just recieved this e.mail from Virgin regarding future check in's.

BTW, I have not been telling them anything,lol...they must mean their customers in general i expect.



'Dear John,

You have been telling us that whether you're travelling on business or going off on holiday, punctuality is really important. In response to that feedback, we recommend that if you are checking in at any of our airports worldwide you arrive 2-3 hours before your scheduled flight departure time to ensure that you have checked in your luggage and collected your boarding pass on time. Our check in facilities will close 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure times of our flights. If you fail to complete check in procedures by this time you will not be able to travel.

Passengers using the check in options listed below will have to arrive at the airport at least 60 minutes prior to departure to collect their boarding pass and if necessary drop off bags. Our bag drop facility will close 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time of our flights. Passengers who have failed to drop their bags and collect their boarding card by this time will not be able to travel.

Hmm, i was in Gatwick on Monday (head office is based a short walk from south terminal) at 9.30 the virgin area was virtually empty. And the screens were still showing the 11.15 flight. A lot different i would assume (never flown with 'em before) over easter, xmas etc.

However, they are opposite the easyjet checkin area, which had the look of a major scrum.!!

i just got one of them messages to John! we always get there about 4 hours before departure as we're only 35 mins down the road, but we allow for travelling conditions!

I got this too. I thought they had the DIY checkin at Manchester????

They should have DIY checkin at Manchester as well, the website says you can check in online for departure from any UK airport. They don't have twilight but should have the bag drop zone where you would go if you have checked in online.

I think it is a good idea, if only to get people there early so the plane is not late leaving. Though I wonder if the delays are caused by the plane having a problem. We have just been to/from Orlando with Virgin from Gatwick and had a good flight both ways.[msnsmile2]

We used the wonderful check-in facility at Downtown Disney [msnwink], thus cutting out having to queue for ages inside the airport. The flight was held up for about 45 mins due to some-one on the plane being allergic to my wife's perfume, well after all it was poison, once the paramedics had checked her out and told her that nothing was wrong, and her and hubby were moved up front we were off. During the flight the kids were disappointed as this was one of the older planes, as is often used at Manchester, and it didn't have the computer games to keep them occupied. This was probably a blessing as it enabled them to get some much needed sleep.

I had the same e-mail this morning. Or should i say E-mails. They sent the thing 3 times. Must think i need the point reiterating. The daft thing is i have e-mailed them over the last weeks but never about punctuality. We won't be late i have a husband who makes sure the Gibbos always get to where ever we are going early. Think it must be by being in the army.[msncool]

We had the same thiing 3 times yesterday one for each member of the family as we're all flying club members.

Trouble is even if you get everyone there for checkin an hour before flight , we've all seen the airport type programmes no doubt, where there is some one who thinks they can spend as long as they want in duty free or the bar and the plane will be kept waiting for them.
