I have two daughters and they've both got their own insurance and both own a 1.1 citreon saxo. I was always advised that they should have insurance in their own name as soon as they have a provisional, that's if they own a car and in their case they did, this helps bring the cost down. Pass plus also brought price down and the fact that it's cheaper for girls to be insured than boys. My 19 year old daughter has been quoted £422.00 fully comprhensive by Direct Line for her insurance this year which I think is excellent. My 17 year old daughter paid £687.75 through Direct Line for her insurance while on a provisional and if she passes her test in 2weeks time they have quoted £609.00 fully comprehensive, which I think is reasonable

Good web sites to use are www.confused.com and www.moneysupermarket.co.uk, you provide your details and they search loads of insurance companies for you providing all the quotes. I use these all the time to find the cheapest. Direct Line and Tesco are always very competitive, I think they are underwritten by same company, or Tesco insurance is provided by Direct Line. The Post Office were also promoting their car insurance with a £25 discount to new customers worth a look, promotional code to use FAD code 0065420 Promotional Code MBRA01 TEL: 08001696500

This is good advice, as soon as they start building up No Claims Bonus in their own name their insurance cost will reduce. If they stay on the parents policy they wont be entitled to their own No Claims Discount. Alot of insureres will offer 1 years No Claims Discount for the first year with the Pass Plus so that is a great start for a new driver.
