welcome to the forum Karfy, haven't stayed at the poly but did sta at the all star (ok i'm cheap) but we did have a walk around it you wont be dissapointed, there's a great atmosphere around the hotels in the evening. Disney is a great place to stay, especially for a first trip.
You have free transport which is fantastic if you have a couple at pleasure island [beer] and i think the buses run 'til about 2 a.m.
Have a great time, but be sure to book a villa for your future trips, as it'll work out cheaper and add another dimensiont to your holiday.

Welcome Karfy. Wow what a trip, and your first one too!! I think any trip to Florida can really benefit from planning and this site will certainly help you with that You mentioned the Polynesian resort. We have visited, but not stayed there. My honest opinion, is it was very dark around the resort due to the buildings and architecture in general, and could do with some updating. However, it is in a fantastic location ,just across the lake from the Magic Kingdom, so with the right room looking on to the park, spine tingling view.

Christmas is a fab time to go.
The lights and decorations are fantastic.
Special Christmas parades at the parks and the Ice Sculptures at Gay Lord Palms is worth going to see.
