    Access4Free ending their dial-up service

I'm sure I'm not the only person to have received the e-mail notification that Access4Free are discontinuing their free dial-up from 1 June 2005.

I'm afraid my technical knowledge is next to zero on these things. Can anybody who has also received it explain what the implications are and whether there are any alternative free dial-ups still available?

Access4free service is being transferred automatically to an Earthlink account, unless they're told otherwise.

I'm not sure that this affects any guests as internet service is normally provided by home owners?

Thanks for that blott - yes I thought that was the case but I've usually taken a laptop and just 'plugged in' to the telephone line wherever I am. As I say I'm no expert but it looks to me that I won't be able to do that with Access4Free anymore.

Karen - I will certainly look at your recommendation. Thankyou.

Could prove to be a problem for owners who do nothave internet access!

You must have got a different email to me Blott? Mine says the opposite. It gives a link to register with Earthlink ,but goes on to say that if you don't register by 1st June the Access 4 Free service will be discontinued. Think I might try budgetdialup if they cover Kissimmee. From their website it seems like you get 10 hrs in 365 days for $5.95 or 20 hrs in 365 days for $9.95 (if I read it right)
I think 20 hours would more than cover my usage as we go twice a year for two weeks, and I just use the laptop for emails and keeping up to date with OV (of course!)

If we don't hear from you by April 26, 2005, we'll transfer your account information to EarthLink so your service can be set up.

Be aware that the USA has many places that offer free wireless high speed internet service. Starbucks, Panera Bread, most hotels, many airports.
If you can't be without your internet on vacation, park the car as close to a hotel as you can and I'm sure you'll get a good free signal!
I get a signal in our bedroom! No clue who's it is! Funny thing though is I loose the signal when I move my laptop to any other room in the house!
So, make sure you have a wireless card in your Windows machine, or an air port card in your Mac.

    Have fun......[msncool]

You should get a wireless singal extender antenna set up in your bedroom so it then broadcasts the signal to the whole house
