heart disease and travel insurance

I thought most insurances will not cover pre-existing conditions.

A pal of mine thought he was covered(he also had a triple by-pass) years ago) but on investigation found that any cardiac problem would not be covered. I don't know the firm he was with but I would check the wording of the policy very carefully.

My husband and I have just returned. I posted earlier in the year about travelling with pre-conditions. My husband had a quadrupal by pass last June.We had no trouble getting cover as he hadn't actually had a heart attack this seem to have made a difference.
He didn't go on the BIG rides but he went on every thing else.
When he was discharged by the hospital where he had had his op he was told that insurance companies have no problem with peop;e once they have had the bypass and happily take them on.
My husband is 51 years old.
We had a great time by the way, although the traffic and road works were awful but that's the price we have to pay to go during school hols. Good luck with your search...if you have problems let me know and I will email you the name of the insurance company we used.

hi Trevlad, i would check the small print, Re. pre-existing medical conditions Must be disclosed, otherwise your insurance will be null and void.I read an article in the newspaper a couple of months ago, were a chap who had a history of heart problems took bad in Canada and was hit with a medical bill for twenty thousand pounds,because he had not declared his medical history,i think he had to sell his house.

I had a Double by-pass, 10 years ago when I was 45, I have no trouble with insurance, I also take a million tablets a day, all that is required is a letter from the doctor saying its ok to travel, as previous posters have said there are insureers out there taht its not a problem with.

We have insurance with a company we found through the British Heart foundation site and the family now have complete cover for £180 per year. My husband had a minor heart attack 2 years ago and this policy cover his heart.

I'd just like to add after being dropped by FirstAssist for a pre existing condition I found that Marks and Spencers travel policy was reasonable and covered our conditions. The poicy is underwritten by AXA Insurance[msnsmile2]

My wife has a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. We found it very difficult to get travel insurance but we have just renewed AN ANNUAL WORDWIDE POLICY for her and myself for the second year and it cost £124. It was with Barclays.
