Taking someone with a care order to Florida.

    Hi,
We are all going to Florida in September and we are taking my sons friend with us to keep him company.
He is 17 and is still under a care order from the local authority, he was placed in care when he was 5 and moved back with his father when he was 14.
We have applied for his passport and received it without any questions.
Do you think it will be a problem with immigration taking him to Florida? We will of course have permission from his father and social services.

Make sure you have written permission from both parties.
Does he have a care order due to any criminal activities? If he has ever been arrested, even if he was not charged he will need a visa.

You will also need to get written permission to authorise any medical treatment he may require while in the US - we are taking a friends son with us in October and have been advised to also get this notarised by a public notary.

If you want a copy of the wording the following is what we were advised to use

    PARENTS NAME

    HOME ADDRESS

    DATE

    To whom it may concern

I, PARENT's FULL NAME, give my son, (son’s full name), permission to travel with (Your Name goes here). I hereby give (Your name) authorization to seek any and all medical treatment for my child, if and when necessary.

    PARENTS SIGNATURE

    PARENTS NAME IN FULL

This needs to be notarised by a public notary

    Hope this helps

He does not have a criminal record, so that should be fine.
I shall just make sure he has written permission and we should be fine.
    Thanks

we had a similar enquiry and we were told that you must have a letter from the local authority and also a copy of the care order with you when you arrive in the US.
Good point that Caroline pointed out re the medical permission, but im sure this is normally included in the care order.
