Regarding pushy sales, in our experience at Orlando it is not as bad as it used to be elsewhere in the US. I remember our first trip to Miami when they were really pushy but I held my ground and we ended up with an upgrade on the car they were trying to push anyway.

Trev, don't think you will get a clear cut answer on the actual cost because it depends on a number of factors.

We always book a 2 door....and they always upgrade to a 4....a saving of only $40 or $60 over 2 weeks I know.....but I'm begining to think they have no 2 doors anyway...because it happens everytime with every company we have used so far.......[msnoo]

I was out in February on my own so booked the smallest car possible from Dollar on the car hire site attached to this forum. The cost was £109 for the week.

I decided when I got there I would maybe like to upgrade to a Jeep or similar. If I had done it before I went the cost would have been £177. To do it when I got there they wanted to charge me $280 extra on top of the £109 I had already paid.

Best to do it before you go.

They have offered us upgrades before, usually around $15 per day, then they add the sales tax on top of this at the end.

We onced booked a Full size 4 door although we would of liked a SUV. We made a note of the price difference if we'd of booked the SUV in the UK. When we arrived at the dollar desk and they asked if we wanted to upgrade we told them we were only prepared to pay the same price as it would of cost us in the UK to do this. We got the SUV for the same price. Never take the first deal they offer you always be prepared to haggle, if they don't give you want you want then walk away. We have tried this again but without success.
