Our eldest son is a white knuckle ride junkie, he loves 6 flags, we have been to the one in Holland and the one in Baltimore, USA. They are certainly the places to visit if you are a roller coater nut like our son. He loves Busch Gardens and IOA but would have to say that if he could choose he would opt for 6 flags, shame they haven't got one in Florida it would make for the perfect holiday for him.[msnsmile2]

I've also been to the Magic Mountain the LA Six Flags, and Six Flags over Texas. They are great parks and well worth a visit.

Six Flags did earmark a sit for Orlando but the power of the mouse used its weight and it was decided they could build a theme park as long it was in north Florida so they dropped the idea for now anyway

I thought the name Rita was a joke but it really is called that. Alton Towers even have a mini-website dedicated to the ride itself. Seems like a very odd name for a rollercoaster but I'm sure they had their reasons [msneek]

Here is abit useless knowledge picked up reading a down market Sunday tabloid last weekend. The ride is called Rita for the following reason. Apparently it is based on a American dragster car. According to the journo all of these dragsters are given girls names.(bit like Eddie Stobbart lorries for you eddie spotters out there.) It was a name all the directors and staff liked. Probabaly a play on the film a few years ago.'Priscilla queen of the desert.'
The journo really hyped it up. Obviously not been to Orlando and the parks mentioned in this thread.

Just to update...I think the blurb below answers my previous question!

Top theme park, Alton Towers, will be celebrating the marriage of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles on April 9th by renaming its hottest new roller coaster: Rita - Queen of Speed to Camilla - Queen of Speed.

The theme park has filmed two versions of its TV ad for the ride - featuring Rita and Camilla respectively. The latter will be shown on national TV on the wedding day. Signage on the ride and other communication will also be altered for the one day only name change.

Tracy Burton, Head of Marketing, commented, "Camilla may not be Queen of England yet, so we thought she might like to take over from Rita and be ’Queen of Speed’, just for her wedding day!!

Launching from 0-100 kph in just 2.5 seconds, Camilla - Queen of Speed is somewhat quicker than the usual Range Rover and slightly speedier than Charles and Camilla’s decision to marry, but we think that given the lead up to the wedding has been a bit of a roller coaster in itself, they will appreciate this unprecedented move in the spirit in which it is intended. We do of course wish both Charles and Camilla every happiness for their future together."

Rita - Queen of Speed, was launched on 1st April and joins Alton Towers’ now infamous roller coasters including Nemesis, Oblivion and Air.[^]

For those of you who love Roller Coasters... If you're ever in Ohio try Cedar Point. They bill themselves as the Roller Coaster capital of the world. 16 Coasters including the tallest and fastest! Lots of other rides too for the non coaster lovers.
