    Duty Free allowance up?

Dont know if I heard this correctly on the news this morning but Im sure they said the duty free allowance was to go up in todays budget from £145 to £1000?

    Any body else heard this?

Would be great news for all us Florida lovers!![msnwink]

They mentioned it a while ago about the possibility and yesterday in the paper said they are hoping to be able to implement it but because the limit is now governed by the EU they have to get their agreement and are hoping they can get all countries to agree to the change by the end of this year.

It was set at £145 in 1969 and they said they recognise that it is way out of line with todays prices and that even buying a few gifts and souvenirs puts most people at risk of being stopped if they go through the nothing to declare channel.

Just heard that on a summary of Budget proposals on BBC News 24. Excise limit raised from £145 to £1000. Good news for anyone fancying a new laptop/IPOD/digital camera !! [clap]

Yes but it still has to be agreed by the EU so for the moment it is still £145.
