Has anyone had to return home on an earlier flight

We are due out on 18 March for two weeks, my sister is due to come as well but unfortunately her husband has recently been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. He has started his treatment and we did think that whilst we were over he would be treatment free. Unfortunately those are the weeks that he has his final two chemo treatments. She desparately needs a break as before this happened she was also helping out with her grand daughter who was diagnosed with Leukemia.

Obviously if she decides to cancel she will get her money back but if she goes she will not be covered. I doubt if Virgin will help and I would like to have as many details as possible before hand.

She really needs to build up her strength to get her through what lies ahead. The family are prepared to help out whilst she is away and have promised to ring her if she needs to return earlier.

Any advise anyone can give will be appreciated.

    Thank you

It depends on her ticket, I have done this the otherway round with Virgin and stayed longer, as my ticket was a changable ticket I just paid an admin fee, but changes are also subject to availability[msnwink]

You need to find out if her ticket is non changable or changable?

    Who did she book through?

So sorry to hear you sad news too[grouphug]

It's not changeable but we have booked premium economy so maybe they might offer her a economy ticket.

Hopefully it won't happen and if she does decide to go she will have a two week break to recuperate.

Still we are managing to be upbeat about it all and as a family still manage to laugh together.

Jasmine and Jimmy talk about the treatment together. She's 3 and he's 62, she says her hair will grow back pink and his blue. I managed to find some wash out hair gel for her and a blue spray for him.

If its a 'K' class fare - Advance Purchase will normally be required, and ticket will be limited in regards to changes, and a change fee will apply for any changes that are allowed.

If its a 'S' class fare - It is the 2nd highest level of Premium Economy fare, it falls between a K and a W, so will have some more flexibility over a K class ticket. Typically fare is non-refundable but changes to the departure date can be done as long as it’s done before the day of departure, return date can be changed subject to availability for a 30 fee.

I think you really need to phone Virgin and get them to send you what changes will be allowed on her ticket and keep this info with her to use as and when needed[msnsmile]

If you say nothing to Virgin and then present them with a "got to get home in a hurry - husband had a relapse' case, I would think they would be OK - especially as you are on a premium economy ticket. I would have thought at worse they would charge a small fee.

The only problem with this Robert is a lot of people use this excuse when it is not true which then spoils it for people with genuine compassionate reasons for needing to change flights[msnwink]

My friends sister died suddenly 2 weeks ago. BA would not allow her to change her ticket at all and she had to pay $900 to get back.
