We didn't want a "package wedding" either and booked ours via this site. www.orlandoweddinglocations.com Rev. Tim was very helpful. We got married at Leu Botanical Gardens.

My daughter got married at Mt Dora 2 and a half years ago and it was lovely.
We used the Darst Victorian Manor grounds and then went to the Garden Gate for a special lunch. It was a really magical day and so inexpensive.

You only need your passport for to get the licence. My daughter bought a beautiful full length dress for about £80 in Orlando-it was a white with a pale pink underskirt and she shimmered like a princess.
We also had a beautiful hot day -never guaranteed in Britain.

If you just want a small peaceful wedding I can well recommend it.

The cake was made to her design at Publix-was about £30 and she picked her flowers up the night before from the florists in Kissimmee and left them in the fridge overnight -they lasted a week after that.

The photographer was a local chap in Mt Dora who just charged us for an hour of his time.

If you decide to get married in Clearwater -I'm sure the people at The Clearwater Beach hotel would be able to advise you.

The Leu Gardens are very nice and also Cypress Gardens have re-opened and they have a lovely white gazebo in tranquil setting. My daughter wanted to get married there but it then meant travelling for nearly 2 hours for the reception at Mt Dora.

Unlike Britain-it's the person (notary) who has the licence-which means you can get married wherever you want (within in reason)

Thanks for all of your help guys

Just one more question whilst getting married in Florida do you need witnesses as we think we will want to get married on our own with no fuss (just the two of us)

Also what happens about leaving the country different name to passport?

    Thanks in advance

    IIRC you don't need witnesses.

Your passport doesn't matter. Some people never change their name once married, so as long as your ticket matches your passport it will be fine.

Just remember you don't get your marriage certificate on the day of the wedding (or at least we didn't). We had to wiat a few weeks for it to come to us at home. After the ceremony, your marriage licence is returned to the court house and a certificate is issued.

Just read this thread. Have just returned from Orlando after organising OUR wedding in Sarasota.(getting married on a boat)

I went to the court house in KISSIMMEE even though I am getting married in Sarasota - you can still apply for your marriage licencee ANYWHERE in Florida not just the place you are getting married.
I was advised to get a COPY of the completed certificate.

If you want to DM me as well and ask anything else - no problem.

It is so much simpler than England and you are more or less guaranteed the weather.

    LOL
