What does everybody think of this?

Reported in the Mail on Sunday, about Travel companies reducing school holiday price hikes.

Will it happen or is it just empty promises?

Interesting, I've already booked our holiday for this year and my two will miss 8 days of school, managed to get flights on the Wednesday of half term

For most of us on this forum, I think I am right in saying we book the individual segments of our holidays separately, so if the travel agents reduce their package prices, will the airlines and villa owners do the same?

Hope it happens. Cant really see the Airlines especially the American owned ones reducing their prices just for the British people. Perhaps if the school/local councils spread the timing of there holiday periods then this may help.

I think there may be some truth in it, although the discounts may not turn out to be as much as advertised, especially the "free child options". But it IS a good move considering how many parents are considering taking their kids out of school to save money on holidays. It is particularly relevant for Central Florida, where the holiday is longer than usual - upto 3 weeks to do justice. Looking at some of the other threads with huge increases in flight costs at times of school breaks, it is high time that somebody did something and let us hope that this is at least a start.

I'll believe it when I see it - although would definitely welcome it [msnsmile]

It would be great news. I heard it being discussed on Radio 5 and there were strings attached eg. you had to book by a certain date.

I would heartily agree that prices should be reduced during the school holiday periods . Question is how the travel / airline companies would implement it. Presumably the cost of airfares out of school holiday seasons would rocket to balance the reductions? (the shortfall would have to be made up somehow! [msnsad])

I agree with Kevin, the airlines will have to make there mone somewhere and I think reducing costs at one time of year will meen increasing them at others. I would benefit greatly from any reductions as working in school I have to go during the school holidays.

I won't hold my breath but if it happens, great. I always try to keep holidays with in school holiday times borrowing a couple of days before they break up! Has anyone, or do you know of anyone who has been fined for taking their children out? All three schools the girls go to refuse authorised leave for holidays.
