O.V. quit smoking club

After too many years to count I have decided to give up smoking so from tomorrow I will be a non smoker, Just going to take it one day at a time. I have worked it that I could have an extra trip to florida with the money I save. Has anyone on the forum given up latley.

Good on yer...are you using anything like patches etc?

Could do with joining you on this one....an extra trip to Florida is a good incentive..are you going to put the money to onw side each week to see it grow?

Anyone can join. I bought two boxes of patches from boots two weeks ago so have been planning this for a while,They have an offer on buy one box get the other half price, panic is starting to kick in but I am determined to do it this time, I sat down and worked out how much I spend it was quite frightening so an extra trip will be my reward and a healthier me. It is not going to be easy as I have smoked for more than 30 years. I am going to open a separate account and make the trip each saturday to put the money I have saved in.

Most GP Surgeries now do a "Smoke-Stop Clinic" that is usually led by a trained nurse with feedback from the Drs as necessary. The advantage with these is that the treatment programme is optimised to the individual patient's needs and the patches (or other devices) are given on prescription, making them more cost effective to the user.

Worth checking out for anyone serious about giving up smoking.

So glad to hear you are both giving up, my dad died of lung cancer, it was awful. So if that doesn't make you give up.....I don't smoke but am behind you all the way![clap]

i gave up smoking the end of july after smoking for 33 years, i did not think i would be able to do it , i thought oh no what will i do after i have eaten or with a drink ,or what will i do in a stressful situation !!but i did it i now am proud to say i am a non smoker.
i bought some patches (supposed to use them for 10 weeks )i used them for 2 weeks and i have never looked back.
i can taste my food now and i can breath easier.and when i stand near somebody who smokes the smell is absolutely revolting.(just think that used to be me..
or you could do what my brother has done. he paid to see a hypnotist and that has worked for him after 28 years of smoking.

I am not a smoker either, but my Sis in law has just gone back on the patches and is doing really well!!!!!!!! She sees the nurse at her doctor's surgery and this week she got 3 weeks of patches for one prescription.

Good luck Rose!!! thats a brilliant idea of going to the bank every Saturday to put that money in, I can't think of a better incentive than a trip to Florida[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

thank you all for your support I am sure this time I will make it. Will keep you all posted, Hubby and I are off to florida at Easter for a week to sort some thing out so will treat myself to a few extra things.

you can do it!! i gave up 20 years ago just like that! the way i did it to go around and sniff yes sniff all my material things ie, the curtains, the cushions the furniture, anything where smells cling to! and smell really smell it, fags fags and more fags! yuk!!!!! after a while you will notice that it stinks!!! and everyone one around you that smokes stinks! i drove my hubby mad! everything was so smelly! i would come down in the morning and draw the smelly curtains, i didnt wash things straight away, people would still come in my home and smoke, in the end i couldnt stand it and had to ask them to stop smoking! they laughed and still did it, till the last pregnancy, when we had a couple of scares and i nearly lost my baby, then was told she may have downs! we decided enough was enough! NO SMOKING signs went up and we stuck to it! my baby was so precious no one was risking her life cos they needed a fag! thay went out the back for a smoke and still do to this day

go sniff your curtains 3 days after you last have one! then tell me what you smell!

i have had many sad things happen in my life, but the first that happened 11 years ago i started smoking! but i couldnt cos it was foul! i tried but did it cos i was so upset, after 2 weeks didnt do it again, but there have been times when i fancy a cup of tea and a cigerette i cant bring myself to!!! it stinks! the taste in my mouth...yuk ... the smell on my clothes and body... yuk... i can smell when someone passing the house smoking and the pavement is 15 yards or so from the door! caught the kids out when they said they werent smoking! only 1 out of 6 does it
