    Something worth knowing.........

As you all know I have had to cancel our trip in July/August, we had booked our flights through Charter Travel.

I contacted them yesterday with regards to transfering flights over to next year - this is something you can do if you booked direct with Virgin Holidays Flydrive, you just pay an admin fee and they transfer the booking over to next year.

With Charter travel the restrictions are such that changes to my July/August flights are only permitted up to Oct 2005. Therefore we will lose all the deposit for flights and car hire.

I am not saying this is right or wrong, its just worth knowing[msnsmile2]

Oh Lucy, sorry to hear this, coming on top of your disappointment at not being able to take your planned holiday.

I know it's difficult, but all you can do under the circumstances is look on the bright side it seems to me - you might have booked with any other ticket agent and had to pay in full for the flights up front.

Doesn't your travel insurance cover you for being unable to travel for business reasons?

Will they allow you to transfer the tickets to somebody else? If so, you might find somebody on here to take them at a negotiated price so you don't lose everything.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. Don't think we will be able to travel before the deadline as the work will run through the Autumn.

We will just have to put it down to experience I think [msncry]

Even though you feel bad now about losing the deposit Lucy, you still made the right decision. You got your priorities right and went for long term stability. I am sure that you will not regret this decision and next year's trip will turn out extra-special. [msnsmile2]

I suspect the restictions are not placed on the tickets by Charter but by the airlines themselves. I cannot imagine for a minute why Charter would feel the need to place restrictions like this.

I think that this is very common if you buy tickets at certain prices, they usually say non-refundable and non-transferrable, and I am sure that John is absolutely right about this not being Charter's fault - it is more likely to be the airline's conditions.

Still, I can imagine your disappointment, Lucy, but am sure you have made the right decision in the long term. Your business is very important, and in this instance has obviously had to come first.

I do hope that you will be able to re-plan your trip for another time.
