The route is fairly straightforward. The Florida Turnpike runs from just north of Miami through Kissimmee and southwestern Orlando and is a direct route. But the traffic could be heavy in the often travelled road.

I would agree with Nostromo completely. Pick-up the Turnpike just north of Miami. It's a much easier drive than trying to up up I-95 and then and back along 528. The Turnpike will drop you straight onto US-192 if you are heading for a villa. Figure about 4 hours for the drive (traffic permitting). The Turnpike is a toll road and from memory I think you hit about $12 in tolls from Miami to Orlando. The tolls tend to keep the road free from really heavy traffic though.

There are plenty of service plazas on the Turnpike if you want to stop for a stretch or a coffee. There's a bit of knowledge to remember for them. The Turnpike is a big divided highway (dual carriageway) and the service plazas tend to be in the middle between the two halves of the road. When you come to pull into one you need to be in the outside (leftmost) lane as you will exit to the left.

This might sound like a daft thing to say but when you re-join the Turnpike after getting your coffee do a quick mental check that you are going in the right direction (north/south). The plazas are shared across both directions so it is possible to head out the wrong way.

Top tips from Snapper. I fine the Turnpike works well. However the drive all the way along the 192 if you are staying near the 27 can take some time. But still the quickest route overall.

We took the turnpike route last OCtober when we landed in Miami and drove up to Orlando, a very straightforward route indeed.[msnsmile]

we went via the 27 as our villa is near the end of the 192 and 27 junction-but that was 5 years ago before the 27 became really busy.

I probably would use the turnpike now.
