    Devastated!

We had to make a very tough choice today, do we go to Florida for 4 weeks in August and turn down a big contract or do we cancel and do the work?

As we have our own business which we are building up at the moment, I suppose there was no choice to make, but it was still very painful for us.

We were due to go to Carlas villa on 30 July for 4 weeks, what makes it worse is we know the villa as we went last year and it is beautiful and we were so looking forward to it, Im going to miss sitting by the lake watching the wildlife whilst sipping a drink or two! [msnsad]

I would just say a special thank you to Carla for being a wonderful host and for being so understanding - thank you Carla!

I am not sure if you are merely bouncing it off us others or asking for an opinion Lucy, but if I was in your position, I would see to the business contract. You must get the priorities right. I know it is heartbreaking to cancel a holiday, but Florida is not going to run away and there will be other holidays. Moreover, if this big contract comes through, you'll probably be in a much better financial position and so afford to spend more when you go again to Florida in a few months time.

If on the other hand, you turn down the contract and go to Florida as planned, you'll always harbour a guilt complex and probably end up arguing between yourselves whether you did the right thing. That might easily cloud your enjoyment of the holiday and then you could end up dissatisfied on both counts.

I stress that this is my personal opinion and it is entirely up to you to decide what the 'right' thing is in this situation.

    Thanks Nostromo.

I was just sharing our decision with everyone else on here, the decision was already made.

Nice to know you feel the same way[msnsad]

I think you made the right decision. Did you manage to rebook for a later date Lucy? Or is that it now till next year??

Tough choice - thats the only trouble when we all book things well in advance - we never know whats round the corner - and we all know to get what we want we have to book a long way ahead.
Better to look forward to next year[msnsmile2]

Must have been tough to let that contract go!

I know, I know, I know, I'm too late with this post. When I read your first post Lucy I genuinely thought this was what you were going to say.

Looks like that Learjet charter down to the Keys to watch the sunset is just going to have to wait for a year.

    Oh poor you.
I am sure you will be able to reschedule with Carla for a time when you are both free. All the cash you make from the new contract will come in handy, maybe you can come for 5 weeks instead

A good thing for all renters to think about is getting travel insurance as soon as you have booked. Then if the worst happens and you have to cancel at least you have a hope of getting your money back.
