From what I have seen and heard on the news channels out there there is a lot of roadworks around at the moment - however most of these seem to be in the region of Improving the roads both the 192, H27 and I4 and when they are finished things will be alot better for everyone. [msnsmile2]

The road works around the Walmart on the 192 do hold things up a bit at the moment but they are not permenant. We got caught in a bit of a queue yesterday on our way to Tony Romas for ribs but didn't mind as it gave us a good chance to nose at everything, after a few days here we are chilled out anyway.[msnsmile2]

I thought the same as you Ringwood. We were out there 6th- 20th Feb and traveling anywhere was a nightmare. We sat in a traffic jam on the I4 for 2hours one day, saying that I think that was due to an accident. But did think it was busyier than the last time we went.[msneek](Tho they were doing roadworks on the 192 back in 2000!!!!)

But like the rest have said think it is all due to road works and will only be temporary!

    Time will tell!

We stayed at Orange Tree which is on Highway 27, left at the end of the 192. We have been to Orlando loads of times and never found the traffic to be a problem, however this time we hated driving as it took ages to get anywhere - two hours to get to Beltz, two hours to get to the turnpike and nearly two hours to get back from Universal. It put us off going anywhere in the end and we were wondering if this was a temporary blip or a sign of things to come. There seems to be so much building work going on now, and so many more houses that the roads can't cope, is the area becoming a victim of it's own success or do you think the infastructure will be able to cope?

Our house is on 27 and we had the same problem Christmas.....I put it down to road works and extra holiday traffic..by the 5th of Jan the roads were OK again....we will have see what happens when more homes are up and running......but I think the road works are the problem now.....its just hit or miss if you get a clear road or not.....if it were anything but road works.....the roads would be like it all the time......

I know that they can hold up traffic anywhere, but I think roadworking in America is much less disruptive to the traffic than in the UK. Over here, all they have to do is block off a small section and the traffic queues build-up on either side before you have a chance to say "Jack Robinson".

Our villa is on Orange Tree and I'm certainly allergic to traffic after nearly 20 years of living in London. There has been a lot of writing about road works - but let me report back as we are going out in 25 days and 17 hours (whos counting).
I agree the 192 is a drag - so why not spend 10 mins extra and drive down the 27 towards Champions Gate and then up the I4 if you are going to anything "off" the I4??? Just a thought...
In any case no more WakMrat on the 192 as we have own right next door [msnsmile2] which might compound the problem at times[msnsad]

Will you guys stop trying to freak me out. We have booked a villa on Orange Tree. I don't want to know about traffic. Lets hope it is a one off, 2 hours to get any where we will kill each other. The girls don't do traffic. Bless em. Do you think it will be sorted out in a year? I know how long Florida road improvement takes.

DM, stop worrying. For a start, Orange Tree is a great Villa community and if your caretaker is a lady named Rose and her family, it'll be an icing on the cake. I am sure that Ringwood's traffic experience is a one off. Even though there are no 'through the sticks' routes to the parks, ther are alternative ways to do it. Rather than worry about it now, find out the major points of roadworks closer to the time of your departure and we can work out the best routes to everywhere that you want to go.

On the brighter side, US roadworks move a lot faster than their UK counterparts. We found a stretch of northbound US27 reduced to a single lane one morning; the narrowed area was near the junction with US192 on the first day, but by day 3, it had cleared our route and moved further north beyond Orange Tree. Even when it was there, we did not find it as disruptive as in the UK. The USA is a country built for cars and driving around is a LOT easier than over here...even if it is on the wrong side of the road [msnwink].

Hi Ringwood sorry but had to laugh. I was going to reply.. no wonder it took you ages driving as Orange Tree is RIGHT at the end of the 192 not left.

However you make a good point. Hopefully things will be better when the road works on the 27 are finished. [msnsmile]
