    Traffic

We stayed at Orange Tree which is on Highway 27, left at the end of the 192. We have been to Orlando loads of times and never found the traffic to be a problem, however this time we hated driving as it took ages to get anywhere - two hours to get to Beltz, two hours to get to the turnpike and nearly two hours to get back from Universal. It put us off going anywhere in the end and we were wondering if this was a temporary blip or a sign of things to come. There seems to be so much building work going on now, and so many more houses that the roads can't cope, is the area becoming a victim of it's own success or do you think the infastructure will be able to cope?

I am very surprised Ringwood. It has to be a temporary blip, or...if you'll forgive me.... you could have taken the wrong routes. We stayed at Orange Tree in April-May last year and never found the traffic a problem anywhere except near the US192 Walmart where there were major roadworks going on. From Orange Tree, it took me no more than 35 to 40 minutes to reach Universal on 2 separate days, Belz about the same. Even our visit to Kennedy Space Center took only 75 minutes! From Orange Tree, we took the US27 & then US192 only as far as the Sherberth Road turnoff near Marker 6 and then went on to Osceola Parkway to join the I-4 for all outbound journeys. What route did you take?

We did the same, down US27 and joined US192, but to get down the US192 took ages, up to mile marker 3 it was not too bad but after that it was just a traffic jam, to get to marker 6 took 90 minutes. I even wondered if it was worth going right out of Orange Tree and seeing if we could cut across that way, but the maps didn't show any roads.

This is definitely atypical. We had very few problems right upto Marker-6 of US192, and we used to leave the villa around 8:30am, right in the middle of the rush hour.

There are no roads (as far as I know) that you can use to 'cut across' from Orange Tree or any other US27 Villa communities. But in about 18 to 24 months, they are hoping to open a new bypass near AK Lodge, which means that you can leave US-192 near Marker #4 and cut across to Osceola Parkway.

I agree with Nostromo. Our villa is on Silver Creek just about 5 minutes from Orange Tree on the 27 and when we were out there in December had no problems at all with the roads except for the Walmart area on the 192 which had road works. So this must be a one-off.

I was over in our villa between 18th + 26th Feb and there are more roadworks than I have seen in a long time. As you guys have said, it is mostly road widening around the 192 walmart but roadworks have appeared on the I4 now right near the 192 junction so that is compounding problems even further. I know they will only be for a limited time but its still a pain!

Will you guys stop trying to freak me out. We have booked a villa on Orange Tree. I don't want to know about traffic. Lets hope it is a one off, 2 hours to get any where we will kill each other. The girls don't do traffic. Bless em. Do you think it will be sorted out in a year? I know how long Florida road improvement takes.
