    Crystal Waters

Hi,has anybody been to Crystal Waters if that's the correct name. Saw an article in a newspaper on Sunday about swimming with the Manatees which sounds great and another place that may need to be visited on my next trip in April.

Unfortunately, my Father-in-law forgot to save for me.

Anybody been and how long a drive is it from Kissimmee?

    Thanks Wend

Yes we went to Crystal River. We paid out for the suits etc (rubber) but as we were trying to find the manatees a big black snake swam in front of us. That put an end to me going in.

Just about saw manatees, nobody exactly got to swim with them. A long way for not too much. Silver Springs was better.

My daughter and husband went to Crystal River just before Christmas. They were advised to go really early, they set off at 6am, and were rewarded by swimming with several manatees and a baby.

The reason for going early is that manatees are active in the morning and 'sleep' rest for most of the afternoon, so spend more time on the bottom only coming up when they have to.

We went to Crystal River last Christmas on one of the organised tours and it was excellent. There were a lot of manatees to swim with and the guide was very informative. It also depends on the weather as to how many manatees are about at any given time.

I "met" someone on these forums, who went to Crystal River on her trip to Florida at Christmas. We actually met up at a swim gala in February(turns out our daughters both swim for clubs that were attending the same gala)and, she said her swim with the manatees was a bit of a highlight of the trip, clearly they must have gone early as they said the manatees were all around them!! I had not really thought about it before she had mentioned it, but she was so excited by it, i became very keen to have a go.I too saw the article, and keep saying I would like to go now when we are in Florida in April. My Friend said she preferred it to her Dolphin swim at Discovery Cove, which they did on Xmas day!!
The black snake has me a little cautious now though

Sounds like something our sons would enjoy doing, Rich loved his dolphin swim at Key Largo a few years ago.[msnsmile2]

If you go to Google and put in a search for Crystal Rivers it will give you web sites to look at.[msnsmile2]
