    Shuttle launch rescheduled

    Hi,

Just found out that the shuttle launch has been rescheduled for Tuesday, and we will be in Florida to see it[msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Can anyone tell me where we should head to to get the best view, and what time we should try to be there by etc.

Any other hints and tips would be appreciated.

I've got to say that I'm pretty darned excited about it!!![msnwink]

Me too Phil - thought we had blown it, but we are going out on Saturday - would also like to know the best places to see it. I have heard that you can get a good view from Cocoa Beach[msnsmile]

We were the same Dawn. When it was cancelled, I never even considered that it could be rescheduled to while we are there!!!

I'll have a look at Cocoa Beach and see how easy it is to get to, thanks[msnwink]

Head for Cape Canaveral, thats where we went last week had a superb spot on the beach with a great view. Shame it was cancelled but we had a nice day on the beach. I suggest you leave early as the traffic was very heavy last week, 300,000 people were anticipated arriving in Cape Canaveral, that was the information provided to us by the visitor centre. When you arrive in Cape Canaveral there is a visitor centre on your right, can't remember street name, if you take a left at the traffic lights there and go about 4 or 5 blocks down there are some free parking bays and if you find one take it and don't move from it. We arrived about 11.00 and were lucky enough to park straight away. Traffic was also very heavy when we left and the journey back seemed endless, I would allow yourselves 2 hours travelling time.

<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:NASA will try to launch Discovery on the first shuttle flight since the 2003 Columbia disaster at 10:39 a.m. Tuesday. Plans are not final, but NASA's backup launch attempts -- in the case of minor technical glitches or bad weather -- would be Wednesday, July 29 and July 31. Additional launch tries in
the first few days of August are under consideration.
    [/quote]

If it doesn't go on 26th July at 10:39am the timings are approx 1 hour earlier each day.

You can view anywhere on the beach from Port Canaveral and South.

Take the Beeline(SR528) which goes to Port Canaveral and the A1A south toward Cocoa Beach. Do not take SR192 toward Melbourne as it will take you hours.

Bear in mind that there is always a good chance these launches can be called off at the last minute.

We were there in May and it was due to go up i think on 22 May 2005 but it kept on getting put back. We missed so i hope it does up this time and for all you lucky people in Florida who are going to the launch , enjoy it.

    Revision of launch times.

Liftoff time is earlier each day. The shuttle must launch at specific times to be on the proper path to dock with the International Space Station. Here are the times for the earliest attempt, next Tuesday, through the end of July. Discovery must launch by July 31 or wait until September to get the best possible pictures of the external fuel tank so engineers can tell whether post-Columbia design changes worked. Right now, the tentatively planned launch attempts would be on July 26, 27, 29 and 31 though that is always subject to change.

Anywhere along the beach from Indiatlantic up is good, have seen it go off many times from the beach. You have to watch out for the fish jumping out of the water onto the sand though!

We saw a shuttle launch from the beach about 10/11 years ago - i think it was Cocoa beach. You get an excellent view of the launch from there, and there's a great atmosphere with all the Americans on the beach listening for the launch on their radios, and cheers when the take-off occurs...
