    Another Dodge Durango

My luck was definitely in last week when Dollar gave me another Dodge Durango for the week. I'm now wishing I'd bet a few extra chips somewhere as Dollar have also given me a Durango here for the next 3 weeks in Orlando. Wahooooooo!

Both of them are brand new and are the limited models; 5.7 litre engine (vrooooom), 6 disc cd/mp3 autochanger, climate control system, auto-dipping rear view mirror (just love it!!), and all sorts of powered gizmos and whatnots.

All booked through Roger and John, so thanks heaps chaps.

    Nice one Steve [msnsmile]

Just before we get lots of people booking car hire with us and requesting a Durango, we cannot guarantee you will get one as strictly speaking you only have access to them over the counter when you book on arrival with Dollar. The best we can say is book a 4x4 and ask Dollar nicely on arrival and if you are lucky they will oblige.

There isn't - as I said above, you can only get a Durango over the counter on arrival and you cannot pre-order them. Thus there is no concept of price difference.

It has 7 seats Lucy but you have to drop the rear row if you want any luggage room, so it's better with 5 seats and lots of room.

John's words are exactly right, and to complte the story we were expecting to pick-up a Jeep Cherokee at Orlando. At the moment Dollar seem to be running both Cherokees and Durangos as part of their 4x4 SUV fleets, and you could end up with either. I should add also that the Jeep Cherokee is also a super vehicle. I drove one 2,500 miles last November and hardly felt like I'd done any travelling in it. This was also through some very snowy wintery weather and the Jeep never once put a foot wrong.

It's exactly as John says above. I asked nicely at the Dollar counter and the lady very kindly had a Durango driven over from the other terminal for us. We had to wait about 40 minutes for it to arrive, and we could have had a Jeep a bit faster if we had wanted.

It's very much down to what Dollar have available at the time, however I have also noted that each time I've picked up a Durango I've been wearing my shocking pink shirt that can only really be described as being almost as loud as Nostromo's. Maybe that helps!!

Great - the point I want to make to people here is please do not make car hire bookings with a comment "must be a Durango" as we cannot do this and guarantee anything other than a car in the 4x4 class - which is very likely to be a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with Dollar.

If you want to do this and chance it with the Dollar rep on arrival then that's ok but it's your risk and not something we can guarantee in any way.

I had a look at the Durango on the Dodge website. It certainly looks like a handy people-carrier and has impressive engines under the hood, but what I could not make out is its luggage carrying capability with all 3 rows of seats in use. For me, that is the crunch point for choosing a vehicle for a party of 7 or 8 people.

Nostromo, There is very little luggage space if you use all 7 seats. Its great for us here now as there is only me, Bry and the boys this time, but on our next visit we will need a people carrier.
It is a really great car, but it is very high off the ground, you really have to climb in. I like the Jeep cherokee just as much.
