My son is 17 and his friend caught mumps a week ago. Although my son had his MMR jab when he was 2 years old the nurse at my sugery advised him to have a booster which she gave him immediately. Seemingly the jab given all those years ago is not enough to cover you with this new outbreak.
She has also advised a Menangitis C booster in a months time.
God, What a day I have had!
Watched a bit of Discovery Health, you know all the style and makeover type programmes looking for some insperation then had a wee bit lunch and took some painkillers....well I spent the next 2 hours in absolute agony, fainting, flushing and shaking involuntary and lying on the bathroom floor covered in a wet towel...not a pretty site.
The painkillers the Doc gave me were knock out material I had to crawl to the sofa and then I was too weak to get up on it and lay on the floor for an hour. 90% back to normal now have just struggled to drink lots to try to flush rest out of my system but woah, these tablets are going back....cocodimal if anyone is curious, I have had them before but I think with being ill it just hit me hard. Missed out on a whole afternoon of my beloved OV!

'Co-Codamol' is a very misleading name and people who think they have had it before might not have done so. This is because there are two strengths, both referred to as 'co-codamol' colloquially, although there are other names. The lower strength one contains 8mg of codeine phosphate oer tablet with 500mg paracetamol and can be purchased over the counter (usually as Solpadeine). The prescription only higher strength one containd 30mg codeine per tablet, making it nearly 4 times stronger (Solpadol, Kapake, Tylex etc). If you take 2 of those without being used to it, all the side effects mentioned by CDV can occur. But people taking it regularly soon 'get used' to these effects.
Nostromo
Poor you CDV - sounds awful [grouphug]
CoCodamol never had that affect on me I'm pleased to say.
Glad you're well enough to be chatting to us all again now

It was Tylex Nostromo, don't think I would want to risk them again to get used to it, I really felt dreadful, luckily I knew it would only last for a wee while so tried not to panic too much. Still got a bit of abdominal pain but nothing like earlier when I could not even stand.
I had them about 4 years ago when I first injured my back and remember feeling spaced out but nothing like this afternoon. Going to stick to my beloved Advil gel capsules from now on in!
