    is it normal practice

for owners of villas on OV not to send out comfirmation of booking and receipts for money paid , ie deposit and second payment , i have requested on numerous occasions for comfimation of my dates and receipts for the 2 payments in writing which now comes to well over £1000 , the owner keeps promising but never sends it is now nearly 6 months since i paid the deposit , should i worry or is this normal practice
this is my first post and the first time i have booked a holiday this way tia .

    No, it isn't.

You should certainly have a confirmation of booking, which should in some way go hand in hand with a signed booking form and terms and conditions.

Personally, with everything being electronic these days, I send a confirmation number once a booking is confirmed. I don't send a receipt unless a guest asks for one, but I would certainly oblige within days if this was requested.

If you booked a villa through OV the best thing to do would be to send a direct message (DM) to either floridadreamvilla.co.uk or roger with as many details as possible. Include the reference number of the villa you booked. John (floridadreamvilla.co.uk) and roger run OV and other villa related websites and work very hard to maintain a very high level of quality of both villas, owners, and in turn guest experiences.

I do hope that this doesn't unduly tarnish your experience of renting a villa. We all work extrememly hard to make sure our guests have a wonderful experience. I am sure you will find support with all the other owners here also.

We had TWO confirmations of booking, in fact. First, from the then owner, which included a confirmation of the £200 deposit. But a few months after that she sold her villa to another Brit (initially unbeknown to me, causing momentary panic) who then sent me a letter re-confirming and reassuring me that the original booking and deposit would be honoured.

Normal practice as far as I am concerned is that I send out a letter with a receipt for the deposit within days of receiving it. When the balance and security deposit is paid I then send another receipt, letter and instructions of how to find the place.

I suggest that if you booked your villa via OV then you DM John or Roger, I am sure they would want to know this is going on as it is the exception rather than the norm.

Could just be this owner is a bit green and still learning the practices of STR. But, still, if you asked for it you should get it promptly. I always send out confirmation/receipt immediately after I receive any payment.

Sounds like you are sorted now?? I hope so - best of luck![msnsmile2]

I always send out my confirmations and reciepts for payment by email unless I'm asked to mail a receipt. If asked then of course I would send one - usually straight away. Only one or two guests a year actually asked for a written receipt so it isn't any trouble.

It may be that the owner you have booked with doesn't normally do this and is a bit disorganised getting one out to you. It sounds as though you are communicating with the owner so it isn't a problem with emails getting through.

It isn't very good of the owner but if it is a villa through this site I wouldn't worry too much as they are all verified and your booking should be quite safe. Since you're concerned though I would agree with the earlier suggestion to contact John or Roger at info@orlandovillas.com and ask them to help you out.

Just a thought - have you received an email confirming your booking? Some owners don't send snail mail letters but do everything via the internet these days.
