    St Augustine

Well there it was advertised on TIR radio-just an hour and a half from Orlando! So how come it took us three!

And why didn't we set off earlier!

    Cos it was lovely!

St Augustine was one of the first towns settled in Florida-by the Spanish who put up the lovely mediterranean type buildings- only to have the British come and lay waste to them! Sad isn't it? But what was left is lovely!

    But-it shuts early!

At 5pm-we were just about to give the little train a try-only to have the driver telling us he was shutting up for the day-leaving us in a stunned silence on the sidewalk!

Thinking we'd do a bit more shopping- panic set in as we realised shops were shutting before our very eyes!

So the moral of this is sad tale-is set off early or prepare to stay overnight.

There's a lovely pedestrian bit with shops and restaurants. We did our homework and asked in tourist information where was a good place to eat and they recommended The Columbia right in the middle of this area and they were spot on! The food was great. (There's one in Celebration-but give it a miss-we found it expensive and the food mediocre!)

There's a lot of history associated with St Augustine with the old buildings, museums etc-just be sure to allow plenty of time!

Did you check out the USA's oldest school? I agree, it's a great place to visit but 1.5 hours is a bit optimistic and leave Orlando early because there's heaps to see and do there.
