hi shane, welcome to the forum. I hope you find the villa you want. I am in the process of buying, having stayed in both hotels and villas around Orlando, and I would never go back to a hotel if I was staying for more than a couple of days. You will find a villa to suit you through this web site I have no doubt.

Incidentally, if paying taxes upsets you I would give Ireland a miss.

green fields and Guinness aren't everything.

So, if you haven't been to Europe, how many stamps have you got on your passport?

    regards

    John Rocke.

don't get me wrong, nothing at all, but when you pay 43% on about 15000 Euro's, it is not a place to go if you are tax shy.

I have two sisters married in Connemara, both my parents are Irish and 90% of the rest of my relations are there as well. And I go back at least twice a year.

    regards

Shane, you really shouldn't have anything to worry about, ok maybe a lot of owners are british, but unfortunately, America being America, it is virtually impossible for us to live out there as well, so although you're initial contact maybe through a brit, the properties are maintained and cleaned by Americans!!!!!! we trust them to look after things in our absence, trust can work both ways.

    Shane,
I understand perfectly what you are going through. I just went through the same thing myself. I saw all of the amazing villas on these sites, and saw how truly wonderful the people on this forum are. I have talked to the person I chose to rent from a few times through e-mail, and got pretty good vibes. But when it came time to send my check, I just froze. One week's rent might not be alot to some people, but my husband and I have had to save for quite a while to be able to take this vacation. If it is not on the level, we are out a vacation this year. I also understand how scary it is to send the money to anyone that you don't know, but especially to someone from a different country. I almost ditched the whole plan and ran back to the known safety of my hotel plans. But I think sometimes you just have to take the chance and risk it. Hopefully, I won't be regreting this decision this summer, but somehow I just don't feel like I will. I suggest you do a general enquiry on the family sites. that way you can list your requirements. Then the replies will probably come pouring in. Then you can decide which ones best match your personal needs. When you have made your choice, you can e-mail (or call) your owners. Make your final decision based on the vibes you get from the owner. Personal contact may help to ease some of the fears you have. Let me know how it works out for you.

    Sam
