    Fort Myers to Key West

Has anyone used the ferry from Fort Myers to Key West before?

Thinking of using it for a trip to Key West in March, instead of driving.
Is it clean and modern ?

We havent actually used the ferry but I got all the details for our last trip. It is modern ship with all facilities on board and you can either go there and back in one day or break your journey stay ovenight and come back the next day. It is a daily service in summer and leaves around 8am arrives in Key West around 11.30am and departs at 5/6pm. Cant remember the cost exactly but think it was around £70 return. Booking ahead in peak times is advisable. We never actuallly got the kids up early enough to get to FM for 8am!!!! but we are hopeful we may do it this year!!!!
There is a website with all the details. Think it calls at Marco Island for pick ups as well which may suit us as that is where we are staying this year.
    Hope this helps.

    Look at http://www.keywestshuttle.com/
One tip from some of my renters who highly recommended the trip was to bring a jumper or jackeet for the evening return trip. Very hot day but was cold on the way back with the wind etc.

It is worth a check before you go, that it is actualy sailing. We turned up last September to find that they "lay off" at this time of year [msnsad][msnsad] I think it is for a couple of months.
