    Taking friends children to Florida...

We are taking my sons friend to our villa in Orlando. I read somewhere last year that you need to get written authorisation from the childs parents to allow us to ok any medical treatment that may be needed on their behalf. It was also mentioned that this should be 'notorised'. I can't find the thread. Can anyone advise if this is correct and has anyone done this themselves?

It IS correct. To be on the safe side, it is better to get written authorisation from parents or legal guardians if you're going to take minors abroad even if medications are not involved. Saves a lot of hassle if something goes wrong.

I would have thought that notarising a written parental approval would make it safer for you. I am not certain if this is absolutely necessary, though.

We took our sons girlfriend with us to Florida last year. We got her mum to right a letter stating that she gave permission to take her out of the country and for us to sign for any medical attention she may have required. We didn't get it notified although we did se a thread on here somewhere that people did advise getting a letter notarised.[msnsmile2]
We didn't get asked if we had permission to take her abroad by anyone and the letter never came out of the envelope, but better safe than sorry.[msnsmile]

I think it was Carla that had some info on this, I've tried doing a search but not come up with anything, hopefully Carla will see this and comment. We're taking our sons friend with us later this year, so I'd be really interested too!

Yes it was Carla, she posted a standard type letter to use, which we adapted for our needs, very helpful.[msnsmile2]

Thanks for that Blottie, why does my search button not work like yours - just out of curiosity what words did you put in the search?

OK, I'll make a guess. She probably types "THIS IS BLOTT" before any other keyword and the Search Engine then shudders, drops everything else it is doing and leaps to answer her query.
