We also had solar pannels on our home which were ruined during the hurricanes so we decided not to replace them as there is no gaurantees the next time a hurricane passes thru they wont fly off.

when we went to florida last year jan/feb time we were told we had solar heated pool, and all there was was solar cover (blanket).
there fore the water was freezing, but we compained to travel company and we were moved. so be aware sometimes solar heated pool means no heat at all.

I am 100% sure that anyone advertising "solar heated pool" on this foum is talking about proper solar panels not just a solar cover.
Which travel company was this Poohbear if you don't mind my asking?

I suppose the company thought that a pool exposed to the sun could be described as "solar heated" [V].

Thanks to everybody for all their replies
We have had solar heating for our pool for 8 years and it is adequate for the days when you are prepared to take your clothes off to swim. If it is too cold to strip off, it is too cold to swim.
We have had absolutely no damage to our solar panels with the hurricanes and neither has any of our neighbours.
We stayed in a villa that had solar pool heating before we bought our villa , it was in May and the water was so warm it was like getting into the bath, I think most owners that have solar pool heat also have either gas or electric as a back up for the cooler months.

We asked the same question. We are staying in a home with solar heating in september. We like the pool warm and hoped this would be enough. The owners reply was that it tended to add around 10f to the temperature which was in their view plenty for that time of year.
Hope their right.
We stayed at a home that advertised that the pool was Solar Heated.
I just assumed this meant heated by the sun because the water wasn't exactly warm.
I notice someone on this thread said solar heat increases the temp by 10F which isn't a great deal really.
