The TV commentator said only a handful of airports will be capable of handling these aircraft by the end of 2007.

Unless some airports get Government subsidy to pay toward the necessary facilities I think it might stay that way.

The USA government have had a huge row with Europe claiming that Airbus have received unfair subsidies from European governments. So I cannot see much help being forthcoming there – especially when the smaller Boeing rival will be taking to the air a year or two later.

I would be very surprised if Orlando will see these planes for many years. The UK -Orlando route is not one of Virgin’s prestige routes as it doesn’t have a high number of businessmen who will pay the high fares. I suppose Miami is a possibility.

What's the bet the price of flying on one will be as big as the plane itself.[msncry]

Not sure I would want to be the first to try it out, but expect there will be plenty of people queuing to do so!

Although I can't see Virgin using these for Florida, at least intially. I reckon they'll be doing the Australian routes and similar long long haul.

Can you imagine how long it will take to get your luggage if your suitcase is the last off of this monster...[:O]

Then again Brizzle, Virgin fly 2 flights a day from Gatwick at the moment. 3 Flights a day on Fri Sat & Sun thru the summer this year. So it would make sense for them to use them when it uses less fuel than one 747.

I don't think there are any airports in Florida with current plans to build the facilities to handle these planes. So it is likely to be many years before Orlando sees one.
