    Easter and American school holidays.

I know that Easter is always a busy time in Orlando, with loads of us Brits flocking there, but i was wondering if the American schools break up at the same time, and if so do they have as long off as we do here in the UK ?.

    Thanks.

    Hi John.

It will depend on what part of the country you want to know about!

Routinely, Easter is not given as a holiday. Sometimes it does coincide with Easter but not always. If you are asking about 2005- I can tell you the NorthEast only has Good Friday off. Our Spring break is always the third Monday in April which in Massachusetts coincides with a bank holiday here called Patriots Day. Our break this year is April 18th to the 22nd- which would give us a chance to get away the 16th to the 24th.

For some useless trivia- the Boston Marathon is always run on Patriots Day!

In our area (Michigan), we have Good Friday and the week following Easter off. We also have a winter break which varies by school disctrict. Some are a long weekend in Feb. Others, like ours, have a full week off in February. Colleges and Universities will have different schedules.

Sounds like the US holidays are as confusing and stretched out as the Uk ones now.[msnsmile2]

Also, being in Massachusetts like Karen we start school vacation the 3rd Monday in April(Florida here I come), as it does not matter when Easter is. I know a couple of states around us have the previous week off. We have school up until the end of June, so I think you will find that states that end school earlier will also have an earlier spring break.

I don't know if this is relevant but I have looked at the park opening hours for March. They are open until 7 or 8pm upto about March 19 then they go to 10pm until about April 2 when they drop back to 8pm. Could be they are expecting a busy period.

Yes, I believe so. Since Easter is in the last weekend of March this year, the late opening hours on either isde of this would explain it. I have noticed this pattern during the Easter break every year, irrrespective of when Easter actually is. Therefore, it is best to assume that the parks will be busy from about a week before to a week after Easter. Arriving about 10 days after Easter is a good plan since it coincides with good weather and a 'dip' in the crowds.
