EMH Days (Well I think that's what they are called

Do Disney still do EMH days for guests staying on site. Where will I be able to find a list of the days. Someone please correct me if this is not what they are called.

I have got a copy of Simon Vennes' book for 2005 showing which park to visit on which day, but will the EMH days change that or has he already taken them into account[?][msnsmile]

It's all changing - this is what I have read elsewhere.

The parks with EMH get very busy on those days. The best strategy to avoid queues is to go to a different park. This is even true if you are staying in a Disney resort - EMH funnels all the guests in one direction. You may be able to get in earlier/later , but with that many more people in that park the queues will be longer anyway and you probably won't fit as many rides in.

As part of the new "Magic Your Way" plan, beginning January 2, 2005, Disney World will be modifying the Extra Magic Hour schedule to include both Morning and Evening Extra Magic Hours. Each day, one of the Disney Theme Parks opens an hour early OR stays open up to an extra three hours, so Guests of Disney Resorts (which also includes the Swan & Dolphin Resorts, Shades of Green, and the Hilton at Lake Buena Vista), can have extra time in the parks.

Guests will need to present a valid Key to the World Card at the park's turnstiles. Resort Guests wishing to enjoy Evening Extra Magic Hours should obtain a wristband at the theme park by presenting a valid Key to the World Card no sooner than two hours prior to Park close.

    Here is the schedule:
    Sunday Evening Disney-MGM Studios
    Monday Morning Epcot
    Tuesday Morning Disney-MGM Studios
    Tuesday Evening Animal Kingdom
    Wednesday Evening Magic Kingdom
    Thursday Evening Epcot
    Friday Morning Magic Kingdom
    Saturday Morning Animal Kingdom

The general rule of the thumb is that if one is staying at a Disney Resort, the EMH days are good for specific parks. But for those from off-Disney places (like the villas), it is best to AVOID visiting a park on its EMH day. The park will be more crowded and the Fast-Passes tend to run out sooner for popular rides.

So if Simon Veness is saying in his book that the lightest day for Animal Kingdom is a Saturday, but Disney have now made this the EMH day for AK, should it now be avoided?

I thought I had my days all planned out but now these EMH days have realy thrown a spanner in the works

Yes. For example, I bought the 2003 guide in June 2003 and as per the suggestion, planned to visit MK on a Sunday cos it was listed as 'light' in his guide. But we were going in 2004 and for that year, Sunday became an EMH day for MK and therefore 'busy'. I had to reschedule my itinerary after checking with Venness himself by e-mail.

EMH days are rescheduled yearly. So, double check the EMH days for Disney parks for the time you are going and plan accordingly. This means, unless you are staying in one of the Disney resorts, avoid EMH days to go to specific parks.

Is there any logic in the idea that a park would be at its quietest the day after its EMH day? eg would AK be quietest on the Sunday?

Not necessarily. For example, in 2004 Sunday was an EMH day for MK and so busy. But the day after, Monday, is a traditionally busy day for MK anyway and tended to be well attended. The guide gives the situation for all major parks for all 7 days of the week.
