    Busy in august

I have just purchased the 2005 brits guide to Orlando.
this appears to be a very good guide.[clap]
On page 20 it uses a graph to show average temp, rainfall and attendance.
We are visiting Orlando on the 6th Aug for two weeks. The graph suggests a fall from high to medium high after the second week of august which will be when we are there. Can anyone explain why it falls at this time. I would have thought it would be prime time for us Brits given the school hols.
i'll not complain though if its true.[clap]

It might be because the some schools go back during this time. I know they do in Scotland which is earlier than down south. Maybe other countries do too?

Or maybe getting into hurricane season??!!!!!!![msnwink][msnwink]

I have been told that the Americans go back to school mid August so this could help too. I hope so anyway as I am going out for the last 2 weeks of August this year.

August is usually a very hot and very busy month. Also, there is a fairly high risk of afternoon thunderstorms. If it is short, then you may even appreciate the 'cooling off' effect, but the rain can overstay its welcome and interfere with the rides. I must say that we avoid July and August at all costs.

Alot of US schools return in Mid August as they break up alot earlier than Uk schools. We have been a number of times in Mid August and have noticed the yellow buses appearing again during our hols. It is hot and humid and expect rain in the afternoons, but it soon clears up.[msnsmile2]

Correct a lot of the US schools go back then. The ones around the Orlando area usually go back about the 1st week of August. As far as being busy, I have been 5 times in August and never found it that bad. If you plan it right you should not have a problem. It does usually rain and thunder every afternoon but it is normally short and sweet and again has never really interfered with our plans. You know it's going to come so you plan around it.

Just to clear up a point, the hurricane season starts on the 1st of June and runs through to the 30th of November. Last year was 1 in a 1000 (I hope to god it was), it has never happened before and is unlikely to happen again (in our lifetime anyway).

While both my kids were in school/Uni we always went to Florida for the last two weeks of August and came back in time for them to start the new school year. We never found it busy except over Labor Day Long Weekend (always the 1st Monday in September), if we were still there. It didn't rain every afternoon but when it did it was usually only for a maximum of around 30-45 minutes, which was lovely, because it freshended things up!!

As has already been mentioned most American children will be back in school by the middle of August. Over 40 million Americans visit Florida each year as compared with 1.5 million Brits, so you can see that Brit families still vacationing in the middle to end of August won't make that much of a crowd.

It's one of my favourite times of the year in Florida. Lovely and hot plus enough people to give the Parks atmosphere, but not enough to crowd them out.

We were there for August last year & the parks were great - just enough people to give atmosphere, but queues not too long. Yes rain did interupt rides for a bit in the afternoon but not for long - & queues even shorter if you stuck it out![msnsmile2]
