WE purchased a Sony V10 2 years ago, and no problems with using it back here in UK. We bought it at Best Buy on the 441 not far from teh Florida Mall.

What about the Customs limitations of bringing goods into the UK? I understood that it is still about £145 per person max? They will know it is a US spec laptop by a code number or something.

Up until this year we never encountered any problems when going through customs etc, we always took the receipt with us just in case.
The only reason we purchased when in Florida was becasue our other laptop crashed, and we had to replace it pretty quick. Lucky we always take an external hard drive with up to date mirrow back up image, so we were able to reload all info onto the new laptop. Now we only take the external back up drive and copy onto the PC we bought when we were over this year for our own use only, and no longer need to drag the laptop with us.
But laptops have come down in price over here since then, so do not know whether it would be viable to buy in USA now, but having said that with the $ against the £ right now, even paying duty on it when you get back may still work out cheaper than purchasing over here.
The one fault I do find wth the USA laptops is that they do not have the £ sign, and that some of the other characters are in different places on the key board, and this took some getting used to.

Someone posted on here that if you press the Alt key then 0163 it comes up as the £ key ( see I do take notice )

I've yet to try it when I get out there next week.

I would also be suspicious that any warranty would only apply in the USA... worth checking.

We looked in Best Buy last month, there are some fantastic bargains to be had, especially with the pound being very strong at the moment.

You should have no problems at all with buying a US laptop. The main things to remember are the keyboard will be a US one so the key layout is different (they do not have a £ symbol for example) and you will need a plug adapter to allow you to plug it into the mains back in the UK. If you buy a well known make the warrenty should be worldwide anyway. I'd recommend Sony, Compaq or HP.
